Grandma Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter (1/2 lb.)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Sift dry ingredients together.
  • Blend butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender or fork, working the ingredients until they resemble cornmeal.
  • Add unbeaten eggs and flavoring. Chill the dough.
  • Roll out dough very thin on floured board and cut out with cookie cutters into various shapes.
  • Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet in preheated 400° oven for 5-8 minutes.

Notes

For thumbprint jelly cookies, just indent the center of the cookie with your thumb, add a dab of jelly/jam, and bake!
